Bike To Work, Green Lifestyle

Toto Sugito probably would not have thought a simple idea with friends from the mountain bike enthusiast JPG (Gas Pipeline), will inspire more people to cycle to the office or better known bike to work.

Starting from a concern over the level of pollution in Jakarta is alarming. Imagine, in 2005 Jakarta ranks 3rd as the capital of the world's most pollutants. Om Toto-so ordinary he was called-concerned about the state of Jakarta and is determined to reduce pollution in Indonesia by bike. Everyday he used his bicycle from his home to work in Kuningan. He also mobilize the friends who share similar interests and forming a community of Bike To Work (B2W). Increasingly, these communities more attractive and even encouraged by the government of DKI Jakarta.
Dated August 27, 2005, held at City Hall, Bike To Work declared. Attended by Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo and 700 cyclists from around Greater Jakarta. Today it is considered as the birthday of Bike To Work.
Since then the movement of Bike To Work increasingly stretched. Members increased from hundreds, thousands to tens of thousands who came from Aceh to Papua. Cycling fever spread throughout the country though. Bicycles became a trend and lifestyle. Bike shops sell. Various types of bicycles ranging from mountain bikes, folding bikes onthel until now mostly found along the street. Even a bicycle bicycle manufacturers dare release a special edition bike to work and hundreds of people willing to indent to get a bike of this type of folding. Effects caused by this movement is remarkable.
Furthermore - this is the last year - Bike To Work in cooperation with the Jakarta government held a Car Free Day aka Day Free Motorized Vehicle (HKBP) on Jalan Sudirman - Thamrin. Time for each day of the week in the last week of every month. In this way the hours 06:00 to 10:00 should not be crossed by motor vehicles. Only bicycles and people walking (jogging) that can pass through. Also in this region used the children to sports such as futsal and badminton.
Car Free Day in Bunderan HI
Latter also applies to other areas of Jakarta. Other cities which hold Car Free Day is the city of Bogor. Even in this rainy city is held every Sunday on the main road.
For the year 2010, Bike To Work with the Jakarta government plans to create bike paths in some main streets of the capital. Similarly Bekasi City Government will make the bike path along the river Kalimalang. There was a suggestion that at every stop Busway bicycle parking is provided which serves as a transit point. There are also proposals from the Bike To Work Chapter Bogor to train specifically created for cyclists.
Now, the bicycle has become an environmentally friendly lifestyle. Every stroke bike to be so mean to reduce pollution. Every drop of sweat to be a substitute fuel is running low.
Hopefully what initiated by Om Toto will inspire everyone to do something to its environment.
